MY ROLE: SHOOTING PRODUCER

On the evening of 31st January 2017, three days after Chinese New Year, 64-year-old Hang Yin Leung hears a knock at the door.

She would normally be at work at the takeaway business she and her husband built together since moving to the UK from Hong Kong, but tonight she is at home on her own.

She answers the door and within seconds catastrophe strikes at the heart of this hard-working British Chinese family. A violent attack by six men leaves the house utterly ransacked.

But the worst is yet to come. As Hang Yin describes the details of the attack to the police, she falls ill and is rushed to hospital.

11 days later she dies as a result of her injuries.

Her death launches a huge cross-border manhunt, and with a two-week lag since the attack, and no forensics or DNA to go on, the investigation becomes one of the most difficult homicides the detectives have ever undertaken.

Shot over 12 months, Jenni Shaw’s compelling film weaves together extraordinary access to Thames Valley Police with an intimate portrait of a family coming to terms with the loss of a wife and mother.
